On March 31, 2026, MAHT Executive Director, Michael Kane, testified before the Massachusetts State Joint Committee on Ways and Means to advocate for an increase to the budget for the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program (Line Item 7004 9024) to $300 million, $22 million higher than the $278 million proposed by the Governor for FY2027. He also asked the Committee to support H.1547, the bill to codify MRVP. Among the many regulations and protections that this bill would implement, it would also guarantee a cap on rental payments for tenants at 30% of their income. Thanks to MAHT's advocacy, this cap would extend to residents utilizing project-based subsidies in addition to tenant-based vouchers, which previous versions of the bill did not address.
