On Saturday June 20th, MAHT celebrated our latest accomplishment and welcomed new groups with 70 tenant leaders and supporters.

In the past 6 months, MAHT has welcomed Rockingham Tenant Association in West Roxbury, The Farnsworth House Tenant Association in Jamaica Plain, and Lowell Townehouse Tenant Association in Lowell. MAHT also revived Comaven Tenant Association in Brighton and First Lowell Rehab Tenant Association in Lowell to address issues within the buildings. The Forbes Building Tenant Association in Jamaica Plain continues to work towards saving their homes. In Salem, the Loring Towers Tenant Association won $30 million dollars in repairs.
In Quincy 2 tenants at 1000 Southern Artery have bridged the gap between the English speaking and non English speaking tenants. Last year the tenant association had an election, connecting with the Chinese speaking tenants so they could have representation within the tenant association. Tenant leaders Jeane Watts and Miuhung Chan have been instrumental in fostering this connection. In her remarks at the annual meeting, Miuhung talked about the importance of representation for the Chinese residences within the tenant association. They were each given an outstanding tenant leader awards. Long time board member and tenant leader Eric Colin Smith was given a lifetime achievement award for all the work he had done for his building Amy Lowell House in the West End.
We were lucky to be joined by Boston city councilor Ben Weber and representative Ayanna Pressley. Councilor Weber has been instrumental in supporting the city rent subsidy program. This year Mayor Wu proposed to cut $2 million from the program but the council restored funding and added $100,000. Representative Pressley has been a big supporter of tenants, filing the tenant empowerment act. In her remarks she credited her late mother and upbringing for her striving to do great things.

At the end the 2026-2027 board of directors was elected with 5 new members Nancy Libby, Jeane Watts, Denise Warren, Destiny Maxam, and Domingo Cintron.
